Your recordings stay on your computer
Your audio never leaves your computer. Transcribing, editing and mastering all happen on your own machine, so an unreleased episode or a client's work under NDA goes nowhere you didn't send it.
What the app sends
Very little, and never your audio, your transcripts or anything about your episodes.
- The rest of the app, once: the first time it opens, it downloads the part that turns speech into text, from our own server, to finish installing. It downloads again only if a file goes missing or an update needs a newer one. Nothing about you is sent.
- A check for new versions, now and then, so you hear about updates. You can switch it off in Settings.
- Your license, when you activate it, so it can be tied to your computer. After that, a licensed copy checks in from time to time to pick up a renewal. A copy without a license doesn't.
- Performance reports: how long preparing an episode took and what kind of hardware did it. They're on during the beta, and you can switch them off in Settings. More on these below.
That's all it sends on its own. Nothing tracks what you do in the app, and nothing is sent when it crashes. Problem reports and feature requests reach us only when you press Send.
Performance reports
While Soundmancer is in beta, these are on, to help make it faster on computers like yours. Turn them off in Settings and they stay off. Once the beta ends, the app asks once, after your first episode finishes preparing, and sends nothing unless you say yes. Each episode you prepare sends one short report with:
- the app's version
- your graphics card, processor, memory and number of processor cores
- how many hours of recordings the episode had
- how long each preparation step took
- whether the processor had to take over from the graphics card
Never your audio, names, transcripts or anything about the episode, and nothing that identifies you or your computer. Settings shows the last report word for word, and you can turn reports off there at any time.
What we keep
For each beta key: the name and email it was sent to, when it stops working, and which computers it's on, so the two-computer limit works.
This website
No cookies, no analytics and no tracking. Nothing on it is loaded from anyone else.
If you leave your email
If you apply for the beta, we keep your email address, when you applied, which page you applied on, your name and the answers on the form (your computer and graphics card, what you edit, how long your episodes are, how many people record and whether they share a room), to choose who gets a key first and to see which computers people want Soundmancer on.
Every email we send will have a link to leave the list, and you can write to us to be removed at any time. Either way, your address is deleted, not just marked.
